2012 Ford Focus vrs. Ford Focus Electric
The Ford Focus is an economical small car that comes in a number of different configurations. The first choice is Electric or Gas. For the Electric Focus you are limited to one model while there are 6 models to choose from for the 2012 Ford Focus with a gasoline engine.
Ford Focus Electric
The Ford Focus Electric is the flagship vehicle for fords electric vehicle and uses a Permanent magnetic electric traction motor capable of producing 143 hp and 184 lb-ft or torque. This means a little les horsepower than the gas powered Focus which rates at 160 @ 6,500 rpm but has a little better torque that the gas powered which comes in at 146 lb.-ft. @ 4,450 rpm
Both the Gas and Electric powered Ford Focus are based on the same platform, Fords C-car platform so the frame and much of the body and other features are the same between the two vehicles.
The battery employed by the Focus Electric is a Lithium-Ion battery that is electrically cooled and heated to keep the batteries at their optimum temperature for both charging and discharge. The batteries can be charged using either 240v or 120v. A 240v charger can charge the batteries in 3-4 hours and it takes 18-20 hours to charge the batteries using 120v.
Like the Gasoline models the electric Ford Focus is a front wheel drive car. The transmission is a single speed automatic with in addition to the electric motor makes for high torque at any speed. Neither the Electric ford Focus or the gasoline models are recommended for towing though.
The Focus employs an advanced braking system both for safety and power recapture using Power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with four-sensor, four-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS+ESC+HLA), and a regenerative braking system

Gasoline Ford Focus
The 2012 Ford Focus with a gas engine comes in the following 6 models Focus S, Focus SE, Focus SE SFE package, Focus SE Sport, Focus SEL and Focus Titanium. Each model uses the same 4 Cylinder 2.0L engine with direct fuel injection and twin independent variable camshaft timing or TI-VCT.
The 2012 Ford focus has a unique "Active Park Assist". Once a driver activates the "Active Park Assist", the system begins scanning for an available parking space, and notifies the driver once a parking space has been found; the driver then stops the vehicle. The system calculates trajectory and parks the vehicle within 24 seconds, steering automatically. All a driver needs to do is operate the accelerator and brake pedals.
Another unique feature incorporated into the 2012 Ford Focus is the standard torque vectoring control system. This feature behaves like a limited-slip differential to constantly balance distribution of torque between the driven front wheels. The result is reduced understeer (what occurs when a car steers less than the amount commanded by the driver) or plowing, improved traction and better turn-in. Torque vectoring control uses minute braking force applied to the driven front wheels to add stability as the vehicle is accelerating through a curve.

The Focus S, SE models come with a 5 speed manual transmission and the SEL and Titanium come with the Ford 6-speed PowerShift automatic transmission with SelectShift capability.
MyKey owner Controls
The Ford Focus SE comes with an interesting feature which allows the owner to have limits on some of the Focuses features. When this special key is used the top speed is limited to 85 mph and alert chimes can be set at 45, 55 or 65 mph. The audio system is also limited to 44 percent of the maximum value.
