Ford Escort Trims

The Ford Escort was the first front wheel drive car that Ford built in North America and replaced the Ford Pinto a car that was known for several safety issues. Ford produced the Escort from 1981 to 2003.

In 1995 and 1996 the Ford Escort came with two different 4 cyl engines a 1.8 liter and a 1.9 liter. The escort was offered in 6 different trims the hatchback 2 door, the LX Sedan 4 door, the LX hatchback 2 door, the LX hatchback 4 door, the LX wagon 4 door and the GT hatchback 2 door.

In 1997 Ford lowered their offering of Escorts to only the Sedan 4 door, LX Sedan 4 door, and the LX Wagon 4 door, all of these came with a larger 2.0 liter engine.

Ford stopped offering the LX wagon in 1998 and added the SE Sedan 4 door, SE Wagon 4 door and the ZX2 Coupe 2 door. Ford had the same lineup of Escorts in 1999 but added an S/R performance (sport) package as an option.

In 2000 Ford dropped the LX and SE trims leaving the Escort Sedan 4 door and the ZX2 coupe with the S/R performance package which remained the Escorts offered for 2001 and 2002 as well.

In 2003 Ford dropped the Escort Sedan as well leaving just the ZX2 Coupe with it S/R performance package option as the only Escort offered. 2003 was the last year Ford offered the Escort where it was replaced by the Ford Focus.

Although all Ford Escorts had a 2.0 liter engine after 1997 the engine used was different for the different models. The Sports package used the much more powerful Zetec DOHC 14 engine giving up to 143 hp, while the standard CVH SPI2000 engine only gave 110 hp.
