Reduce your car insurance premium by using a couple of simple measures

Car insurance has gradually become more expensive over the last few years. However, there are some simple things that you can do to reduce your monthly premium to free up some extra cash.

Try to park your car off the street - some insurance premiums are based on geographical areas, which are most often related to higher crime rates. If you live in a location where car crime is high, you should expect to pay a higher premium as the risk of your car being stolen is greater. However, if you are able to park your car in a garage, secure car park or a well-lit area, the chances of your car being stolen is reduced. Your insurance company will recognise this and lower the amount they charge you for your policy.

Beware of having 'named' drivers on your policy - the cost of having another named driver will be dependant on their age, sex, driving history and a number of other factors. If it is a motorist deemed as low-risk, for example an elderly woman, it is unlikely to increase a premium by too much if at all. However, if it is a younger male driver, deemed the most risky, that is being added as a 'named' driver, you can expect to have to pay significantly more. It is important to remember that if the 'named' driver has an accident in your car, it is your insurance record that is likely to be affected even if you were not in the car at the time.
